DPA: NGO Accuses South Sudanese General Of Amassing Fortune During War

A top South Sudanese army general has amassed a fortune through questionable business deals while his country is facing war and famine, a non-governmental organization said on Wednesday.

Deputy Chief of Defence Staff Malek Reuben Riak has offshored millions of dollars through deals in energy, construction and explosives, said The Sentry, which investigates the financing of conflicts in Africa.

The lieutenant general was meanwhile partly responsible for military strategies that helped to create a famine in the country’s north, according to the report.
