Statement in Reaction to UAE’s decision to join “Board of Peace”

In response to the UAE joining of the Trump Administration’s Board of Peace, The Sentry’s Executive Director, Justyna Gudzowska, said:

“The UAE’s decision to join President Trump’s “Board of Peace” is deeply hypocritical. While Abu Dhabi presents itself as a champion of peace in Gaza, it’s credibly accused of helping fuel one of the world’s worst ongoing conflicts in Sudan. UAE directly arms and aids the Rapid Support Forces and allied militias in Sudan, which have been responsible for a genocide that’s killed tens of thousands, displaced more than 12.4 million people, and forced over 3.3 million to flee as refugees.

As the UAE talks about peace and global leadership, millions of Sudanese are facing famine, disease outbreaks, and the total collapse of basic services, with children at extreme risk. Peace cannot be something governments advocate for in one place while undermining it in another.
